Remedial Massage
Sarah Collier
Remedial massage uses techniques similar to those used in sports massage to address a range of conditions. Most pain originates from soft tissue- for example low back pain is often muscular in origin and headaches often originate in the muscles of the head and neck. The techniques include passive mobilisations of a limb (to assess range of movement), frictions of varying depth to realign muscle fibres, trigger pointing (sustained pressures to release muscular pain) and massage that stretches, brings warmth and drains away excess fluids and toxins.
Remedial massage can be an effective aid in recovery from specific injuries (eg falls, whiplash) and chronic pains arising from for example poor posture or repetitive strain injury (eg from daily computer use). Techniques to each client would be used and some suggestions for homecare routines (such as stretches) given in order to help progress recovery and improve the client's management of their injury or condition.
Sarah often incorporates remedial massage techniques in her aromatherapy massage treatments and finds that the effectiveness of the treatment can be enhanced using essential oils with relevant properties such as analgesic or anti-inflammatory.
Appointment length and frequency would be determined according to the client's condition.
